Now when there are chaos and strife spread by the wrath of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across the world, it is time to take preventive measures against the disease. COVID-19 has affected more than five lakh people with death toll crossing the 25,000 marks and it has thus become crucial to look for alternative medicinal treatment such as from the Ayurveda, at least till the time the cure will be found.
As people are in gloom and searching for ways to protect their families, the Ayurveda experts from the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy or AYUSH, are giving out recommendations for the traditional medicinal approach for COVID-19.
The experts have advised the intake of medicinal herbs such as neem, shilajit, giloy, and amla can help in increasing the vigour of our immune system. It has been stressed since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak that it is all about the battle between the deadly virus and immunity.
Coronavirus primarily affects the respiratory system and lungs and thus it becomes necessary to have strong immunity. According to Partap Chauhan, Director of Jiya Ayurveda, eating a tablespoon of Chywanprash every day can help in enhancing the immunity of the respiratory system and lungs.
There has been 15% hike in demand for medicinal herbs such as ashwagandha and shilajit, reported by founding and managing director of Upakarma Ayurveda, Vishal Kaushik. It has also been observed that people nowadays are seriously taking up measures for a healthier lifestyle to increase their immunity and therefore adopting Ayurvedic herbs.
It has also been suggested that if you put two-three drops of sesame oil in each nostril, it will lubricate the throat and nasal passage which thereby can help in keeping the foreign bodies and infection away. There is a therapeutic treatment called Nasya for sinuses, head, throat, and nose that is done using anu and shadabindu oil.
Yoga guru Ramdev has also shared Ayurvedic tips in a recent interview for prevention of COVID-19 such as consuming giloy, Tulasi as a decoction accompanied by turmeric, ginger and black pepper. He also suggests adopting pranayama which includes anlomvilom, kapalabharti and deep breathing exercises for increasing immunity.
Ayurveda is our country’s traditional medicinal science that we should adopt since we are staying in our homes and join the battle to fight against COVID-19.
